Qn2, Compare the selected festival with a similar festival...




  • Product
Comparing the product for the two festivals, both offered several shows to the audience. Out of tradition, BM Adelaide Fashion Festival offered its audience with unique experience by setting up an outdoor catwalk show whereby the street was being transformed to a parade.


  • Place
For both festivals, the event organizers did not restrict themselves to set up the events in only a location. To accommodate and to reach out to different audience, shows were held at several locations in order to create different experiences.


  • Partnership
The two festivals had a number of stakeholders. Sponsors held the majority. For Audi Fashion Festival, majority of its sponsorship came from retail owners while BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival had a diversification of sponsorships.


  • Promotions (communications)
Since the main sponsors for both festivals were car-related, cars were parked and displayed as part of the show. Public relations were used for festivals. Such marketing strategy enabled the media to do a write-up for the festivals and thus helped to promote and publicize the festivals further.

Audi Fashion Festival had several exhibitions held and each exhibition was held for a period of time. Thus, it allowed more fashion lovers to be able to see the exhibit. For BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival, there were only a few exhibitions and each exhibition does not last over a period of time. For Audi Fashion Festival, the setting of the environment at National Museum of Singapore gave the audience a sense of mysterious and also created the recollection of the past such as Romeo and Julliet.

The people involved in the festivals included renowned designers and famous supermodels. Audi Fashion Festival had the designers as its focus of attention to the public but this did not apply to BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival. The crews for the ‘Blackmarket’ for Audi Fashion Festival were pleasant polite and well-trained.

Tickets were sold by ‘tickets.com’ for Audi Fashion Festival. There were many outlets thus the public were able to purchase the tickets easily. However for BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival, tickets for excusive shows must be purchased through the official websites. This would thus make it inconvenient for some public who are not computer literate.


  • Price
There were many different pricing for Audi Fashion Festival and it offered different packages to the audience as there were many exhibitions and shows held. For BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival, there was no special package except for the two exclusive shows held have two different prices and its focus was on the parade out ‘The Parade’ which did not require any admission fee for the public.

For Audi Fashion Festival, the 3Ps which the event organizer used were the best. The 3Ps include; place, people and price.

The show of this event is held in a concentrated district, Orchard Road. This is the location whereby it is easily accessible and convenient as it is in the middle of Singapore with MRT and buses available. In addition, there were several exhibitions held in different areas which therefore allow the different targeted markets to be able to involve in part of this festival. Thus, this practice could reach out to many different targeted markets.

The people involved in this festival definitely appealed to fashion lovers. Famous and well-known designers like Ashley Isham and Christian Lacroix were invited to showcase their fascinating art works.

The pricing for this festival also appealed to different targeted markets. There are several packages and the admission fees were all affordable and worthwhile. For students who wanted to see the art piece of the renowned designers, they could get free admission to the National Museum of Singapore to see the famous designs from designer, Christian Lacroix. Exhibitions were also held in shopping centres with no admission fee charged to the viewers. This was also a chance to reach out to many of the audience by showcasing them the designers’ art piece.

For BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival, the best practices were product and partnerships. This festival was able to allow its audience to bring home an unforgettable experience by parading the catwalk show on the street. In addition, the amazing work was to transform the street into a parade. This will thus amaze the public.

There were many stakeholders for BMW Adelaide Fashion Festival and the sponsors formed the majority. With much sponsorship, the event organizer could gain more capital to hold the event and also with these sponsors, they were also able to help promote the festival.

Qn5. Reflect on the main purpose of this festival

The main purpose of this festival is to position Singapore as a regional fashion hub, showcasing the art piece of the young designers. Not every designer who was involved in this festival is famous and well-recognized by the audience. However, this is the reason why they were involved as part of the festival.

This is the opportunity given to the young designers to showcase their designs to the audience. Thus the event organizer decided to introduce brands that are inspiring but not necessarily retail driven to every one. Every design revealed the how innovative and inspiration the designer had in him or her. Through this event and by working alongside with various popular fashion brands, Singapore designers were able to gain more recognition amongst the local crowd. Their designs may thus appeal to the local fashionistas or even to any Singaporeans.

With 11 fashion shows and besides introducing new brands to the audience, such event also enabled sponsors like Lee Hwa Jewellary to showcase its first ever bridal collection and M•A•C presenting their make-up products used in the show and other cosmetics to the audience thus assisted to publicize their fascinating products and the amazing works of theirs.

The event organizer also aimed to build a network in Southeast Asia where people can come to Singapore both for the regional press, international media, buyers, so it becomes a platform for discovery not just for Singapore designers but also for Asian and regional designers.

With such a fashion festival being held in Singapore, it allows Singapore and many more designers to see the prospect of boosting the world of fashion. With such a fashion festival held in Singapore, it would certainly attract many of the fashion lovers, famous designers and overseas media to come to Singapore to attend the show. This will thus increase the number of tourism arrivals for the month. When such festival is held, it requires a large number of people to be available to work and to help out in the festival. Therefore jobs creation increased and with more people being employed, they will have income and able to contribute to the economy. This festival will also increase international prestige as people from other countries get to know that Singapore has the prospect and has the manpower and skills to hold such festivals. This will thus lead to a promotion of investment as people from fashion industry may pine to invest in Singapore. The perception other people have for Singapore may also change. They may have a better image of Singapore and hence improve Singapore’s profile.
  • Economic
With an increase in tourism arrivals, tourism revenue will also increase. As this festival is held over a period of time, the length of stay of the visitors will therefore be longer. Since their stay in Singapore is long, they will thus spend more. With an increase in purchase in Singapore, Singapore benefited by earning more goods and services charges. Since the festival was a success, people will know that Singapore has the expertise and thus create more business opportunities especially into fashion industry. With more business created, they will benefit Singapore by helping Singapore to earn more revenue and foreign exchange. This will thus improve the economy and may also increase the standard of living in Singapore.

Local fashion designers will be proud of Singapore to be able to host such festival in Singapore. Thus there will be an increased pride. As there were several exhibitions held in many locations, there will be an increase in community participation as Singaporeans were able to participate in this festival and thus they have this shared entertainment experience. Audi Fashion Festival showcased the famous designs of the renowned designers. This would be an eye-opener for the public and also to broaden their cultural horizon as they were exposed to these new ideas.

The show at Orchard was held by setting up an enclosed tent which was air-conditioned. Technological may thus improved through this festival as there may be new equipment imported to Singapore to assist the set up for such festivals in the times to come. There may be hand-held devices of higher technology created as this can make available when there are fashion exhibitions held in future.

This festival would expect a number of visitors to the show. Therefore, presenting Singapore in its best state is important. Thus more cleaners were made available to clean up the areas more often so as to make the place looks clean. To enhance the environment, more plants were placed to make it look cleaner and greener. Not to forget, the recycle bins were always placed around Singapore to increase environmental awareness.

To make it more accessible and convenient for the public who want to see the exhibits, there were improved transport and communication as there were shuttle bus provided to transport the public to a few of the places to see the exhibitions. Since this was a fashion festival, government may improve on the restrictions for the public who are interested to set up business into the fashion industry.
